Restoration Log: Vintage Seiko Sportsmatic (Cal. 2451)
Seikosha Sportsmatic, Caliber 2451, 19 Jewels.

Seikosha 2451 Sunbrust dial
The restoration of this piece required a delicate touch. Beyond the standard cleaning procedures, the primary mechanical issue was a lack of friction in the motion works. Using specialized watchmaker's pliers, I applied a precise, micro-tension adjustment to the cannon pinion. This slight tightening restored the necessary friction, and the movement is now operating flawlessly.
Aesthetics & Patina
Mechanics aside, the true allure of this Sportsmatic lies in its dial. It has developed a remarkable, naturally aged patina that adds an undeniable depth and vintage prestige to the timepiece. It is a perfect example of how time can enhance, rather than degrade, a well-crafted watch.
The Outcome & Departure
This was a piece I genuinely enjoyed wearing and one that I initially considered strictly "not for sale." It was meant to be a permanent fixture on my wrist. However, a highly respected senior colleague at my workplace took a profound liking to it. Out of deep respect for him, I couldn't refuse his offer to acquire it.
While it is difficult to part with a timepiece that carries such unique character and personal effort, I find comfort in knowing it has found a worthy new home right here in Japan.
