Restoring a 1960s Omega Seamaster
A deep dive into reviving a water-damaged caliber 565. The intricacies of sourcing original parts and the delicate process of rust removal.
The Caliber 565 is widely regarded as one of Omega’s most resilient automatic movements from the Golden Era of mid-century Swiss watchmaking.
This particular exemplar arrived in severe condition: moisture ingress had seized the automatic winding bridge and severely oxidized the balance spring.
Using a combination of targeted ultrasonic baths, manual pegwood cleaning, and hand-polishing with diamantine paste, each plate was stripped of corrosion while retaining its original Anglage edges.
After replacing the mainspring barrel and fitting genuine NOS balance pivots, the movement was lubricated using Moebius 9010 and HP1300 fluids.
